Giving Tuesday

by Nora

This year for #givingtuesday, we'd like to shine a light on two organizations we believe exemplify 124 West principles

Surfrider Foundation

In their own words "The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world's ocean, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network." This means beach clean ups and active lobbying and activism to protect the beaches and oceans. There are dozens of local chapters in the US if you want to help with clean ups and as always, they take donations online. Check out their amazing gear shop for some sweet swag.

Brown Girl Surf

Brown Girl Surf is a building a more diverse group of surfers by bringing surfing into communities who wouldn't normally have access to surfing. To hear it directly from them "Brown Girl Surf works to build a more diverse, environmentally reverent, and joyful women’s surf culture by increasing access to surfing, cultivating community, amplifying the voices of women of color surfers, and taking care of the earth." This year Patagonia is matching all donations made today, so if you are able to help and underexposed group of potential surfers, please do.

Why did I pick these two organizations? I am a brown girl who surfs who wishes she had access to an organization like Brown Girl Surf when I was younger. I am a fan of surfrider as they are out there doing the work that needs to be done to protect our oceans from the damages humans have already done as well as preventing future damage.

If you have a little extra money this year, please considering donating to these two excellent organizations.
